Minister Bio

Shanti feels particularly grateful for the practices of Hatha, Pranayama, and Meditation. These practices, so filled with light, form the core of her life. The study of Advaita or non-dualism, as well as other Integral yoga branches are also an important aspect of her yoga practice.

Shanti earned a BFA with Honors from the University of Montana with a minor in Native American Studies. Later, in 1981, she studied Commercial Art at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. Those studies enabled her to do some work as a professional artist with a focus on painting and printmaking. Her artistic creative skills shine in the beautiful flower arrangements she creates for Ashram events.

After her previous studies, she became interested in Transpersonal Psychology. Combined with the spiritual teachings of Integral Yoga, and her own life experiences, Shanti is able to help people to expand their understanding of themselves and therefore uplift their lives.

The IY Seminary experience has given Shanti a greater clarity regarding the Universal Truth that is the essence of all Spiritual traditions. She believes that through the lens of the teachings found in the Living Gita and the Sutras of Patanjali, an elevated life is made more accessible.

Shanti’s ordination resulted in a broad opening of the Gateway to the Divine Heart. In addition to benefitting from this experience personally, it has enabled her to deepen the quality of all the services she performs in the most beautiful way. Her ordination has allowed her to gain a deeper inner knowing, clarity and strength. She is able to make more connections, have deeper perceptions, and be even more sensitive to the needs of others.

Shanti’s life is an example of her philosophy. She believes that the beauty of life is revealed in the touching of its essence, which is love. By bringing that love into everyday challenges, we can open doors to a clear understanding of our issues. That results in acceptance and satisfactory solutions, making it easier to move forward.

A couple of final thoughts from Shanti are these: “By combining the opening of the Divine Heart with the tools and teachings of Integral Yoga, one is offered a much lighter way of living. Then it is easier to see all the beautiful, possible solutions to our challenges. How wonderful to Integrate our Divine Nature, with the healing and realigning of the body and mind. The Spirit of Life is a profound and fun guide.”
